Siping

Apr–May 1946 — Lin Biao’s army tries to hold a rail junction conventionally and loses 40,000 men; the Nationalists take Manchuria’s cities to the Sungari. It looks like victory — but it is the far edge of an 1,800-km supply line, and the countryside between the garrisons is already turning red.
This is one scene of Chapter 10 — The Failed Peace and Manchuria in China in Revolution, 1911–1949.
