The bombing of Chungking

1938–43 — The wartime capital in the Sichuan gorges becomes the most-bombed city on earth to that date: over 200 raids, thousands dead in single nights, 4,000 suffocated in one tunnel shelter in June 1941. The government does not move again, and does not surrender. Remember the shelters.
