Hyderabad stands apart

1947–48 — The Nizam of the largest state — 16 million people, his own army and radio — refuses both dominions and dreams of a Commonwealth seat. A year of standoff ends in September 1948 when Indian troops take the state in five days, with communal killings in their wake.
This is one scene of Chapter 12 — The Price and the Legacy in Indian Independence & Partition, 1905–1948.
