Huaihai

Nov 1948–Jan 1949 — Around Xuzhou, 600,000 Communist troops and a million peasant porters with barrows destroy 550,000 Nationalists — the largest battle of the civil war. Deng Xiaoping’s front committee coordinates; whole government divisions defect mid-battle. South of the Huai, nothing organized remains.
This is one scene of Chapter 11 — The Three Campaigns in China in Revolution, 1911–1949.
