Jun 1924 — With Soviet money, arms and advisers, Sun Yat-sen founds a party army academy on an island below Canton. Commandant: Chiang Kai-shek. Political department: Zhou Enlai. Nearly every commander of the wars to 1949 — on both sides — passes through its first classes.
