The Temple of Solomon

c. 1120 — nine knights vow to guard pilgrims on the roads and are quartered on the Temple Mount, taking its name: the Templars. With the Hospitallers they become Europe’s first standing armies — and its first international banks.
This is one scene of Chapter 4 — Europe’s First Standing Institutions in The Crusades, 1095–1291.
