Map showing Deir ez-Zor — The Great War, 1914–1918
SITE OF MEMORY · THE GREAT WAR, 1914–1918

1915-16 — The terminus of the deportation columns: in the Syrian desert camps, the Armenians of Anatolia — driven from their homes by their own government under cover of war — are starved and massacred. Around a million to 1.5 million die. The word “genocide” was later coined with this crime in mind. Remember them.

This is one scene of Chapter 4 — The Widening War in The Great War, 1914–1918.
