Chinese Labour Corps (1916–18)
On the WWI map as “The Chinese Labour Corps”
1916-18 — Some 140,000 Chinese laborers ship from Weihaiwei to dig, haul and clear the Western Front; around 2,000 die. China declares war in 1917 hoping for Shandong back at the peace table — and is refused. The Fourth of May movement is the answer.
