SITE OF MEMORY · THE DECOLONIZATION OF AFRICA, 1945–1994

1968–70 — As blockade brings famine to secessionist Biafra, a night airstrip at Uli receives the world’s largest civilian relief flights. Perhaps a million people, mostly children, die of starvation. Hunger used as a weapon. Remember them.

This is one scene of Chapter 7 — Building States from Colonies in The Decolonization of Africa, 1945–1994.
