The pretender’s bargain

1203 — a deposed Byzantine prince, Alexios, promises money, men and Church union if the crusade restores him. It sails to Constantinople to collect. When the promises prove empty, the army turns on the city.
This is one scene of Chapter 8 — The Fourth Crusade — The Wrong Ending in The Crusades, 1095–1291.
