Lidice massacre (1942)
On the Refugee crises map as “Lidice”
10 Jun 1942 — In reprisal for the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich, German police shoot the 173 men of this Czech village, send its women to Ravensbrück and murder most of its children; the village is razed. Memories of occupation like this shaped how Czechs judged their German neighbours in 1945. Remember them.
