WWI · TURNING POINT ·
Anglo-German naval arms race (1898–1912)
On the WWI map as “Tirpitz’s fleet”
1898–1912 — From the North Sea base at Wilhelmshaven, Admiral Tirpitz builds a battle fleet meant to be too dangerous for Britain to fight. The Navy Laws of 1898 and 1900 fix its growth in law, and Britain reads it, correctly, as aimed at itself.
