Dhaka muslins (c. 1750)
c. 1750 — Bengal’s weavers make the finest cottons in the world and supply about two-thirds of the textiles the East India Company buys in Asia. Dhaka, perhaps 150,000 people or more in the early 1800s, has shrunk to about 50,000 by 1840.
