Wang Guofan’s paupers’ co-operative (1952–55)
On the Mao’s China map as “The paupers’ co-operative”
1952–55 — In Xipu village, Zunhua county, Hebei, Wang Guofan forms a co-operative of 23 poor households owning three-quarters of a donkey between them. In 1955 Mao held it up as an image of the whole nation and used it to argue that poor peasants wanted collectives faster than his own planners did.
