Bukhara

Feb 1220 — Genghis crosses the Kyzylkum desert — “impossible” — and appears before Bukhara from the wrong direction. In the great mosque he tells the notables: “I am the punishment of God. If you had not committed great sins, God would not have sent a punishment like me upon you.”
This is one scene of Chapter 4 — The Khwarazm Catastrophe in The Mongol Empire, 1206–1294.
