BATTLE SITE · THE MONGOL EMPIRE, 1206–1294

1221 — Jalal al-Din Mingburnu, the shah’s fighting son, defeats a Mongol column in the Hindu Kush — the only field defeat of the whole campaign. It proves the invaders are mortal, and it brings Genghis himself down on him within months.

This is one scene of Chapter 4 — The Khwarazm Catastrophe in The Mongol Empire, 1206–1294.
