Fall of Zhongdu

May 1215 — The Jin capital (under modern Beijing) starves and falls; a Khwarazmian envoy reports the ground greasy with human fat. Captured Khitan and Chinese clerks and engineers now serve the khan — the siege problem is solved by hiring the besieged.
This is one scene of Chapter 3 — The Fall of North China in The Mongol Empire, 1206–1294.
