BATTLE SITE · THE MONGOL EMPIRE, 1206–1294

Feb 1238 — The grand prince’s capital burns with his family in the cathedral; his army is hunted down on the Sit River weeks later. Fourteen Rus towns fall in three months of snow. Only the spring thaw, not any army, turns Batu south short of Novgorod.

This is one scene of Chapter 6 — The Storm on the West in The Mongol Empire, 1206–1294.
