Kazakh famine (1930–33)
On the Stalin’s Soviet Union map as “The Kazakh famine”
1930–1933 — The forced settlement of nomads and the seizure of their herds destroyed the livestock economy of the steppe. Between about 1.5 and 2.3 million people died, perhaps two-fifths of all Kazakhs, and over a million fled, some across the border into China.
