Volga famine (1932–33)
On the Stalin’s Soviet Union map as “The Volga famine”
1932–1933 — Famine also struck the Lower and Middle Volga, including the Volga German Republic, where grain quotas were pressed as hard as in Ukraine. Regional tolls are less studied; the Lower Volga alone may have lost up to 175,000 people to hunger.
