Greenland ice cores (GISP2 and GRIP) (1989–93)
On the Norse and Aztecs map as “Summit — the ice cores”
1989–93 — At the highest point of the Greenland ice sheet the American GISP2 team drilled 3,053 metres to bedrock, and the European GRIP core, 28 kilometres away, reached 3,028 metres in 1992. Their annual layers record past temperatures through the share of heavy oxygen in the snow.
