Templo Mayor (1325–1521)
On the Norse and Aztecs map as “Templo Mayor — the founding site”
1325 to 1521 — By tradition the Mexica founded Tenochtitlan here where an eagle stood on a cactus. The Templo Mayor, with twin shrines to Huitzilopochtli and the rain god Tlaloc, rose over this spot in seven building stages and stood at the centre of the sacred precinct.
