Ban Vinai refugee camp (1975–92)
On the Refugee crises map as “Ban Vinai”
1975–92 — A camp in Thailand’s Loei province becomes home to some 40,000 Hmong at its peak. Many refused resettlement in the West for years, hoping to go home to Laos, and kept their villages’ clan structures and crafts alive behind the fence.
