Bridge at Andau (1956)
On the Refugee crises map as “The bridge at Andau”
Nov 1956 — Tens of thousands of Hungarians escape across a small wooden canal bridge near the Austrian village of Andau until Soviet troops blow it up on 21 November. The American novelist James Michener made it the title of his 1957 book about the revolution’s refugees.
