Learn from Dazhai campaign (1964)
On the Mao’s China map as “Dazhai”
Dec 1964 — This hill brigade in Shanxi, which terraced its gullies by collective labour under Chen Yonggui, is held up as the national model: “In agriculture, learn from Dazhai.” Its achievements were partly real and partly inflated, with state help kept quiet; it remained the model of politics-first farming until 1980.
