On the Mao’s China map as “Inner Mongolia”
1968–69 — An army-led purge hunts members of a supposed secret “Inner Mongolian People’s Party”. Official figures later acknowledged some 346,000 people persecuted and 16,222 killed; scholars estimate the dead at between about 20,000 and 100,000, most of them Mongols.
