Red August (1966)
Aug–Sep 1966 — In Beijing’s “Red August”, Red Guards beat teachers and “class enemies” to death: 1,772 by the count published in 1980, far more by a later internal figure. In suburban Daxing county, from 27 August, local militia killed 325 people from landlord families in a few days. The police had been told not to intervene.
