Building of the Trans-Siberian Railway (1891–92)
On the Russian Revolution map as “The Trans-Siberian begins”
1891–92 — The heir, Nicholas, lays the first stone at Vladivostok on 19/31 May 1891, and in July 1892 work starts west to east from Chelyabinsk. More than 7,000 km of track will tie Siberia and the Pacific to the European core, built by a treasury that borrowed heavily abroad.
