Stalin’s Soviet Union · TURNING POINT ·
Georgian affair (1922–23)
On the Stalin’s Soviet Union map as “The Georgian Affair”
1922–1923 — Stalin and Ordzhonikidze forced Georgia’s reluctant Bolsheviks into a Transcaucasian federation, and Ordzhonikidze struck one of them. The dying Lenin condemned the episode as Great-Russian chauvinism, and the quarrel led him to demand Stalin’s removal as General Secretary.
