Battle of Bendery (1992)
On the Meiji Japan and post-Soviet Russia map as “Bender”
Jun 1992 — The fight for the right-bank city of Bender is the bloodiest clash of Moldova’s war with the breakaway Transnistria region. Russia’s 14th Army, still based there, tips the balance, and a July ceasefire leaves Transnistria as a frozen statelet under Russian protection.
