25 Aug 1270 — on his second crusade, Louis IX dies of dysentery in the camp outside Tunis, for reasons of strategy no one has ever fully explained. The last great royal crusade ends before it begins.

13–25 Aug 1920 — At the gates of Warsaw, Piłsudski’s flank counterstroke shatters Tukhachevsky’s exhausted, overextended armies. The Red drive to “sovietize” Europe over the corpse of Poland is broken in a week.
