Forced labour in the Ruhr (1944)

Aug 1944 — The Reich’s labour offices count about 7.6 million foreign civilian workers and prisoners of war, roughly a quarter of all workers, most of them brought by force from Poland and the Soviet Union. In the Ruhr they dug coal and built weapons; in May 1945 they became the core of the DP problem.
