White Buses (1945)
On the Refugee crises map as “The White Buses reach Malmö”
Mar–May 1945 — Swedish Red Cross buses organised by Count Folke Bernadotte carry about 15,000 concentration-camp prisoners to Sweden, Scandinavians first and then women from Ravensbrück; ships bring thousands more survivors that summer. A neutral state became one of Europe’s first places of asylum.
