Palestinian refugees in Gaza (1948–50)
On the Refugee crises map as “Gaza and UNRWA”
1948–50 — About 200,000 Palestinians who fled or were driven from their homes in the 1948 war crowd into the Gaza Strip, among roughly 700,000 to 750,000 refugees in all. The UN creates UNRWA for them in December 1949, and the 1951 Convention leaves them outside UNHCR’s mandate.
