Refugee Convention (1951)
On the Refugee crises map as “Geneva and the Refugee Convention”
28 Jul 1951 — A UN conference in Geneva adopts the Convention relating to the Status of Refugees, which defines a refugee and forbids sending one back to persecution. The same city hosted the UN refugee agency and, in 1979 and 1989, the two conferences that decided the fate of the Indochinese boat people.
