Wildflecken DP camp (1945–51)
On the Refugee crises map as “Wildflecken”
1945–51 — A former Wehrmacht training ground in the Rhön hills becomes the largest Polish DP camp, holding about 20,000 people at its peak, many unwilling to return to a Poland now under communist rule. The UNRRA worker Kathryn Hulme described it in her memoir The Wild Place (1953).
