Siege of Cawnpore (1857)
On the Indian independence map as “Kanpur — Satichaura Ghat and Bibighar”
27 Jun & 15 Jul 1857 — The besieged British garrison surrendered to Nana Sahib on a promise of safe passage; his men and rebel sepoys opened fire at the river ghat, killing most of the men. About 200 captive women and children were killed in the Bibighar on 15 July by men acting for his court. Remember them.
