Shanghai Communiqué (1972)
On the Mao’s China map as “The Shanghai Communiqué”
27 Feb 1972 — In Shanghai the two sides publish a communiqué that states their disagreements openly. The United States “acknowledges” that Chinese on both sides of the strait hold that there is one China, “does not challenge that position”, and joins Beijing in opposing “hegemony” in Asia — a word aimed at Moscow.
