Kurapaty mass graves (1937–41)
On the Stalin’s Soviet Union map as “Kurapaty”
1937–1941 — Mass graves in the woods outside Minsk, made public in June 1988 by the archaeologist Zianon Pazniak, hold victims of NKVD shootings. The official inquiry of 1988–89 found at least 30,000; later estimates range from a few thousand to over 100,000. The discovery helped launch Belarus’s national movement.
