Battle of Sakarya (1921)
On the WWI map as “The Sakarya”
23 Aug–13 Sep 1921 — The Greek army, some eighty kilometres from Ankara, attacks Mustafa Kemal’s defences along the Sakarya river for three weeks and fails. It never advances again, and the Treaty of Sèvres dies here, barely a year after it was signed.
