Battle of Guningtou (1949)
On the Mao’s China map as “Guningtou, Kinmen”
25–27 Oct 1949 — Some 9,000 PLA troops cross to Kinmen in requisitioned fishing junks without naval or air cover and are destroyed on the beaches; almost none return. The defeat, and the American Seventh Fleet’s patrol of the strait from June 1950, leave Taiwan and its offshore islands in Nationalist hands to this day.
