Sino-Soviet Treaty of Friendship (1950)
On the Mao’s China map as “Port Arthur”
14 Feb 1950 — The Treaty of Friendship, Alliance and Mutual Assistance gives Mao a Soviet guarantee and a loan of 300 million dollars, and it costs him concessions: Soviet forces keep this naval base until 1955, and Moscow gains joint companies to mine Xinjiang’s oil and metals. For Mao, the alliance came with a bill.
