Lwów becomes Lviv (1944–46)

1944–46 — Under the Polish–Soviet exchange agreements most of the city’s Poles leave for the lands taken from Germany; its Jews, about a third of the pre-war city, had been murdered in the Holocaust. The Ossolineum library and much of the university move to Wrocław, and Lwów becomes Soviet Ukrainian Lviv.
