Istrian exodus (1947)
On the Refugee crises map as “The exodus from Pola”
Feb–Mar 1947 — As the peace treaty hands Istria to Yugoslavia, almost all of Pola’s Italian population leaves, many aboard the steamer Toscana, carrying furniture and even the coffins of their dead. Between 1943 and 1956 roughly 250,000 to 350,000 people left Istria, Fiume and Dalmatia.
