Great Famine in Anhui (1959–61)
On the Mao’s China map as “Anhui”
1959–61 — Anhui, led by Zeng Xisheng, recorded the highest official death rate of any province: 68.6 per thousand in 1960, more than six times the national rate before the Leap. Counties such as Fengyang, Wuwei and Feidong lost a large share of their people. This marker stands for the province’s dead.
