Great Famine in Sichuan (1959–61)
On the Mao’s China map as “Sichuan”
1959–61 — Under Li Jingquan, Sichuan shipped more grain out to other provinces and for export than any other province while its own people starved. Its official death rate reached 54 per thousand in 1960, and the most populous province lost more people than any other: estimates run from about 7 to 9 million.
