Xinyang Incident (1959–60)
On the Mao’s China map as “Xinyang”
1959–60 — In Xinyang prefecture, Henan, officials went on seizing grain after the harvest failed, beat people accused of hiding food, and stopped those who tried to flee. Estimates of the dead run from about one million upward in a population of some eight million. A Party investigation in 1960 named it the “Xinyang incident”.
