Siege of Sevastopol (1855)
On the Russian Revolution map as “Sevastopol: the Malakhov falls”
8 Sep 1855 — After an eleven-month siege, French troops storm the Malakhov redoubt, the earthwork fort that commanded the city, and the Russian army abandons the south side of Sevastopol. Defeat on home soil, by armies supplied across thousands of kilometres of sea, convinces the new Tsar that serf Russia cannot keep up.
