Capture of Tashkent (1865)
On the Russian Revolution map as “Tashkent stormed”
Jun 1865 — General Chernyaev storms the largest city of Central Asia with a small force. St Petersburg later called it his own unauthorised initiative, but the War Ministry had wanted Tashkent since the late 1850s. It becomes the capital of Russian Turkestan, and Samarkand (1868), Khiva (1873) and Kokand (1876) fall in turn.
